I am so thirsty. I mean who wouldn’t be out here in the Peruvian desert? This month everyone from P Squad (yep, all 57 of us) have been living together at a missionary compound in Trujillo, Peru. The part of town we are in is very hot and dry, the poverty rate is high, and we are told that is unsafe to go out after dark. Since we don’t leave our ministry site much, most of the people I have met this month have been those that come through the doors here at Savage Ministries.
And what a blessing it is to meet these brothers and sisters in Christ while also having a chance to get to know more of my squad mates and their hearts! As we have lead VBS, taught English classes, prepared the classrooms for the upcoming school year, and helped around the church; I realized that I am not just thirsty from the hard work and the heat – I am thirsty for more of God!
“God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you;
my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you,
in a dry and weary land where there is no water”
~Psalm 63:1
Nothing in this world can satisfy my thirst other than Jesus. There is not a career, nor a relationship, nor an adventure that could ever come close to filling up my cup. Seeking these worldly things only makes me thirstier; but seeking God fills my cup up and lets it overflow as a blessing to others as well. I want my cup to overflow in the community of Trujillo and to the youth at Savage Ministries because pouring out to them brings me closer to Jesus – the one who refills my cup!
If you are thirsty for more of God’s Kingdom and want to bless this ministry that helped fill me up this month, please pray about sponsoring one of the students who will be starting school next month. For $25 a month, the student is provided a Christian education, a school uniform, a healthy meal, hygiene products, monthly outreaches for their parents, and most importantly an opportunity to grow in relationship with Jesus. If you’d like to see which children are still in need of a sponsor, please visit http://www.savageministries.com/sponsor.php
