How amazing are Saturdays. As a kid we had strict priorities.
- Sleep as late as possible.
- Cartoons. Cartoons. Cartoons.
That’s pretty much all that mattered. Nowadays things have changed a bit.
My last post I talked about time and how my view of it has changed. It’s more valuable and I am trying to treat it that way. Saturdays since I have been home have been filled with working, going out with friends, or running off to some adventure. I had forgotten the sweetness of a Saturday with little kid priorities.
Yesterday I was off work and instead of going out with friends or planning the day away, I spent it with my mom. We didn’t do anything crazy we just spent the day doing some chores followed by a night of wine, cooking, and quality time.
I woke up Saturday, no alarm in sight, and am still currently in my pajamas at 11:00 am.
Glorious.
As a kid we took Saturday priorities seriously. We saved them for Sabbath. Maybe we got dressed later, did something productive but that morning was sacred. This weekend I got to embrace that again. I slept late and had coffee. My aunt came by and we sat around the kitchen table and had toast. It was good.It was really good. As I sit in my bed and others are already dressed hurrying around, I am deeply satisfied. I am reminded how good this is, and why God told us to rest.
We need it.
What priorities are you setting for Saturday? Do they make you happy? Do they bring you rest? In all honesty this is the happiest Saturday I have had in a long time. For the first time in a while when I got a text today that said “Feel free to come in early” I said no.For once in a long time I see the value of rest, the value of family far more worth wile than some extra hours to get extra bucks.
That makes for a sweet Saturday.
Praying for you, friends. Praying for sweet, sweet Saturdays filled with rest, family, and maybe some cartoons. Keep those pj’s on a little longer, have an extra cup of coffee, and ask God what He wants from you today.
