We
were asked to write a blog about how we were called to this mission trip. Here
is my story…

In a newsletter I
received a few months ago, there was an article posted about a couple of people going on The World Race. I thought it
sounded like an incredible opportunity so I looked up the website. Then I
started reading blogs, praying, and asking questions. Not to long after that, I
decided this experience wasn’t something I should pass up.

 When I was a kid, I
heard about a missionary smuggling Bibles into
China. I then doodled a jacket that someone could
stuff Bible’s into and not get caught. While it wasn’t practical, my 9 year old
mind was excited about missions and what God was up to in other parts of the
world.
A few years later,
I went to
Brazil and spent three weeks with my cousins who
were missionaries there. We cut down banana leaves, built forts, and swam in
the Amazon. They taught at a seminary, cooked, preached, lead worship, wore
hand me downs, sat without electricity on occasion, got lice and other strange
diseases; while loving God the whole time. It was the first time I saw up close
and personal what missions was like.  It
was also my first experience dealing with a language barrier and seeing worship
done in such a simple way. I was itchy (for some reason) the whole time, but it
was worth it. I also think it was part
of the whole experience
🙂

In high school I
went on three trips to
Mexico with my youth group. Each time we
completed a few construction projects and ran two
Vacation Bible Schools. I had different (kind of random…but fun) positions on each trip.
At times I was the group leader, balloon leader, puppet team member, worked on
building a roof, cemented a walkway, was a story teller, gave my testimony,
played games, and evangelized to the kids. It was amazing to see God work in the
churches we were at and to build relationships year after year.

I think I was called to this missions trip over time.  A lot of my past experiences have prepared me for where I am at and even my availability to go on this trip. I know this trip
will be different than any other I’ve been on. The cool thing though is that God is packing his bags and going with us (ok maybe he’s not packing his bags)… but he is going with us and that is AWESOME. What could be better than
going on a trip with the “Creator of the Universe” as your guide?
