Now that we are coming up on month 8 of the
Race, and because we are currently the senior squad on the field, I believe I
have now gained the experience to write such a blog as this. So, without further
ado, here it is:
You know you’re on The World Race when…
·
Showering
every other day is more than sufficient.
·
Let’s
be honest, swimming in an ocean, lake, waterfall, or any other body of water is
sufficient for bathing.
·
You
ALWAYS carry a roll of toilet paper in your purse.
·
An itchy
head = instant lice check.
·
You
regularly whisper, “Hey, what is this?” to your teammate while forcing down a
meal.
·
“Dressing
up” consists of actually putting on make-up, wearing a shirt that hasn’t been
worn in more than 2 weeks (or isn’t a t-shirt), putting on a diff. pair of
earrings, and doing your hair (if you don’t have a weave or shaved head).
·
It’s
normal for people to point and stare. After all, we are ALWAYS the minority.
·
You
get excited to eat McDonald’s for lunch.
·
Splurging
is ordering 4 things off of the dollar menu at McDonald’s for lunch.
·
Peanut
Butter is the hottest commodity!
·
Personal
time consists of blaring your iPod and closing your eyes to pretend that there
aren’t 6 other people in the room.
·
Hot
showers are a luxury.
·
It’s
not uncommon for your teammates to call you to the restroom to help them check
for worms.
·
Duct
tape is a man’s best friend.
·
You
have at least 3 diff. currencies in your wallet at one time.
·
Clothes
are only dirty when they start to smell bad.
·
Personal
space…what is that?
·
Trading
movies, music, and books once a month is a highlight!
·
Free
napkins at a restaurant = toilet paper to be hoarded for future use.
·
It’s
completely acceptable to stick tampons up your nose to stop uncontrollable nosebleeds.
·
Punctuality
means nothing to anyone.
·
You
forget how to speak English properly and often struggle just to say hello
because of the many languages running through your mind.
·
Sleeping
on the floor in train stations, bus stations, airports, etc. is completely
appropriate.
·
You
learn to live on bread and rice.
·
Overloaded
flatbed trucks are the most common means of transportation.
·
You
are no longer disturbed by public displays of breast-feeding or urination.
You know you’re on The World Race when you’re daily walking
in the will of the Lord and seeking His wisdom and instruction. You know you’re
on The World Race when you experience the Spirit of the living God working
through you to heal the sick, love the brokenhearted, and set the captives
free, just as we have all been called to do. The Race isn’t always easy, but
not a day goes by that I don’t thank the Lord for bringing me here and allowing
me to be a part of this journey. What a mighty God we serve!
Opportunity
