In
case I haven’t mentioned it before, Romania was COLD, COLD, COLD! Our ministry mostly consisted of shoveling piles
of dirt, helping on the farm, and digging trenches. One of the great things
about Caminul Felix is that the children remain a part of the families for
life. Therefore, after they turn 18, rather than being thrown back out into the
streets, they are guided and prepared for their next step in life. The
organization is currently building transition homes for those in need, so that
is where we came in. Our job was to prepare the land for cementing and lay the
water pipes, so we basically spent the month digging trenches and covering them
back up. Although we were blessed to be able to help, our job sometimes became
a little repetitive, so we came up with our own entertainment along the way.

In case you ever find yourself in a
similar situation, here are the top ten ways you can keep yourself entertained
during construction ministry…

   –
Mud baseball.

   –
Preplanned mud tackles, which leads to…

   –
Dog piles! Lots and lots of
dog piles.
   –
Push your friends in the trench and throw
icy mud at them.
   –
20 questions.
   –
Dance parties and sing-a-longs.

   –
Awkward family photos.

   –
Throw rocks in the muddy water and try to
splash people.

   –
Dig an 80cm ditch by hand…with
hammers.
   –
Hang out with the British Daves.
   –
Try to figure out why all of
the chocolate in Romania tastes like Rum?
   –
Work hard?

   –
Build bridges

   –
Pelt people with rock-hard chunks of mud…or
worms

Ok, so that’s more than ten, but who’s
counting anyway?

One
of my favorite things about this month was getting to know some of the
children/teens from the homes. We didn’t actually get to meet each other until
the month was about halfway over, but the last couple of weeks made the entire
month worthwhile. Their willingness to be open and loving toward us was
absolutely incredible, and I will never forget the time we spent together.

“Whatever
you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men,
since you know that you will receive and inheritance from the Lord as a reward.
It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”

Colossians
3:23-24
