Once upon a time, 6 girls
gathered around a picnic table in Gainesville, GA anticipating the next journey
of their lives. At the time, they weren’t too thrilled to be together, but they
trusted the Lord and his great plans for them. They came up with the team name
“Lovesong”, although they weren’t quite sure why. The next three months revealed
the Father’s divine works as He taught them to grow in love with one another as
well as his people throughout the Nations.
I’m not usually one for cheesy
love songs or chick flicks, so when it came time to tell people our team name,
I have to admit, I was a little embarrassed. However, I had no idea what the
prophetic significance was behind our name. Mother Teresa once said, “There are
many in the world who are dying for a piece of bread, but there are many more
dying for a little love.” These past three months, I have grown to love my team
more than I can express. Not only were they my chosen co-workers, but they were
my family and best friends. Through them, I have learned how to truly worship
in the Spirit and have an unconditional love, not only for others, but also for
myself.
On our first night in Ecuador, I pulled out my guitar as we gathered with our host parents to have an evening devotional and worship. That night, we discovered that we had been called together as a team to worship our Father and reach the nations through the gift of music. Within the next few days, we were taking my guitar and our willing voices and hearts with us on different house visits to bring joy and encouragement to the people of El Reten. The Lord gave me a song, simple but true, that we could share in English and Spanish. I will never forget hearing my teammates join in song in Spanish for the first time, leading church worship, or simply comforting a dying man with praises to our Lord.
Team Lovesong has been an incredible blessing in my life, and I will always thank the Lord when I think of each of them. Jenna, Annee, Natalie, Olivia, and Kristin: it has been an honor, blessing, and joy to serve beside each of you. I have loved laughing with you, growing with you, and even crying with you during this journey. I love you more than you know, and I will miss you dearly, but I look forward to hearing the many great ways the Lord is going to use you in these next 8 months, and beyond!
