Here I am writing this
in a luxury very seldom seen on the race. I think I’ve only had it two nights
before…my own room and own bed. So much has gone on this week, allow me to enlighten
you a little.
In the past week Sammie went to
the doctor and found out- she has malaria; Tim was attacked by a rabid dog (luckily it only bit his shoe); Nathan decided to be Scottish and wear a kilt; we got to see a beautiful waterfall; so many people left: Scottish team of
five; the three Vanguard girls (of whom spent the past month and half with
racers); Natalie’s sister; Tonya went back to GWs (after spending a week with
us); and Natalie went on safari; oh and some additions, the farm has acquired 2
part Labrador/Rottweiler puppies (one a few months, the other 9 months).
Also, we’ve been
painting like crazy, assembling beds and cleaning amongst other things, to get
the houses ready for opening day, which got pushed back to the 25th
because the mayor of Backdoor (the local town) died. I’m proud of all the work
that has been done by everyone who is/has been here. We still need to finish
some of the painting and replace baseboards, and then it will be minor things
to get the homes move-in ready. I think.
I’m pretty sure this
next week will fly by. We still don’t know what we are going to do for debrief
at the end of the month. I don’t know if I mentioned it or not, but instead of
having a squad debrief we are doing it as teams and then it’s on to ATL.
Speaking of ATL month, my team is looking into going to Zambia. So maybe I’ll be having my 25th
birthday there… maybe at Victoria Falls!!! I can be wishful can’t I?
Back to sleeping in my
own room… With the loss of 11 people in less than a week span that definitely
opened up room for us to spread out a little, especially since we spent so much
time with 6 of us crammed into one room! It’s almost lonely to just have my
team here now, and then Sammie is going to stay at the Betor house for a couple
of days to finish recuperating from malaria and to make ATL plans…so then it
will be 6! 18 people down to 6 in one week! At least there is a perk…not
sleeping next to anyone. Yay!
Well I hope you are doing well. I’ll try
to keep you posted about how everything turns out for opening this place.
