If any of you have been watching the news recently, you have probably seen all kinds of things about the Atlanta area and how we couldn’t handle the couple inches of snow that we got recently. People were stranded in their cars on the freeway because they literally could not go anywhere. The national guard had to come and deliver gas to people in their cars because they ran out of gas while sitting on the road. There were cars stranded everywhere because people were afraid to drive in the snow, so they got out and walked instead. Today our governor has declared a state of emergency for 45 counties in Georgia because of the predicted winter weather for today and tomorrow.

Being from Michigan is sometimes hard in the south, sometimes I forget that everywhere serves sweet tea, not just McDonald’s; sometimes I can’t understand people because of their accent; sometimes I have a mini panic attack when people throw away their pop cans or bottles. In Michigan, I have been in the snow basically since I was born. I was born in November, so it might have been snowing on the day I was born. Snow is not a new thing or a scary thing to me. Trying to be tolerant and not laugh when Georgia gets the threat of snow or gets an inch or two and everything shuts down has been a challenge for me.

Tomorrow [Wednesday] is supposed to be the worst of the snow this time. As the governor has declared a state of emergency, I cannot help but wonder if the airport is going to shut down. I am supposed to be leaving early Thursday morning for Guatemala. I am praying that this weather is not as bad as they say or that it is over by the time we have to leave for the airport. We need every second we can get in Guatemala and having our trip be delayed, even for a minute, would be very unfortunate. I am really, really excited for this trip and I can’t wait to see what God is going to do while we are there.

Like I said in my previous blog I am fundraising for this trip (and still for CGA). I still need $425 to be funded for Guatemala. I am leaving in two days and would love to know that I am fully funded for Guatemala so that I don’t need to stress about it while I am there. This is kind of my own state of emergency. This trip kind of came out of nowhere and now I need all the help I can get. Click on the ” ::Support Me ::” tab. Every little bit helps.

Here I am at Lake Atitlan two years ago on my race, this is where I am going back to!!

Much love,
