Well people, the time finally came to dig deep into ministry this month.  We have spent the last week shoveling snow… non-stop.  We found out on Sunday that there was a group of students from a local college group coming to stay at the camp for the weekend and we have been put to work to get the camp together in time for the students to come and use it.

Thus, the entire camp, which was covered in more than 2 feet of snow, needed to be unburied.  We got all of the shovels that we could find and got to work early on Monday morning to try and find the driveway and the sidewalks and unbury them.  It was kind of a fun game to discover the camp that existed below the layers of snow.  I didn’t know there was a nice sidewalk surrounding the main building or that the driveway included a circular drop-off point in the front of the building and a road lead around to the back of the building.  We spent days and days and days shoveling and digging to uncover the world beneath the snow.

Now, the snow was not light and fluffy the way that it originally fell from the sky.  No, now the temperature has increased and the snow is wet and heavy!  It took a lot of work to dig out the driveway and then, we used a pickaxe to remove a thick layer of ice from the driveway.

Whew!

On top of this, we have been chopping piles and piles of wood to be used in the furnace while the group is here to heat the building and generally getting the rooms ready for visitors.  We cleaned all of the carpets in all of the dorm-rooms, we swept and mopped the 4-story building several times and we got the kitchen up and in working order again.

It has been a fun week full of ministry opportunities.  We have enjoyed the opportunity of getting the camp ready for a group to come and enjoy it for the weekend.  I’m not sure of what the group is doing for the weekend, but I hope that we can spend some time with them and get to know them somehow.  We will be joining them for meals for the time that they are here.
