"Burgers and Jesus… That's how I roll." Litterally. I took a road trip to visit a friend in the hospital in South Dakota this weekend. Little did I know that I would meet one of the most inspirational people I have ever had the opportunity to encounter in my life. Along the way, I got the rumblies in my tummy, telling me that it was time for lunch. I pulled off at the next exit, expecting to get my food and get on my way. I got a McDouble and a McChicken from McDonalds and was ready to hit the road when I rolled up to a stop sign. There, I saw a man holding a cardboard sign that read "Have traveled across the US. No Money. No Food. Anything helps." Well, I had two sandwiches, and only one stomach. I pulled my car to the shoulder, got out, and walked over to him with my McDonalds bag. I think he thought I was going to beat him or something, because there was a look of fear in his eyes that I had never seen on any person before.
As I approached him I asked him "beef or chicken?" He chose beef. I sat down beside him and handed him the McDouble. We started talking about what brought him to this place, and where he was headed. He had a family in New York and he was looking for a job. We talked for about twenty minutes before I had to part. But I was able to pray with him and tell him about what God has been doing in my life in the past few years. When I had finished praying, he said to me "I have never seen such joy in a single person… I want what you have." He accepted Jesus on the spot and we prayed once again.
There are so many opportunities thrown in front of us to talk and teach about God, but we rarely take them anymore… Sometimes in fear of rejection, or being made fun of. Or simply because we are scared of what people will think. Your self worth is not determined by the labels of others, for your value was already determined on the cross!
