I think my team has finally got the hang of this teaching English thing. The kids are participating in the lessons more and more and each day goes better than the last! Ministry is going great – but sometimes we wonder if we’re doing enough. Sometimes we wonder if what we’re doing is actually making a difference.
Yesterday my team prayed that God would allow us to see the result of our work. It didn’t matter if it was the result of teaching English or the result of something else we did. We just wanted to see that our presence here was actually making a difference!
Well, God answered. This morning our host informed us we would not be teaching English today. No, we would be cleaning up the church yard instead.
He drove us to church in the tuk-tuk and we got to work- picking up trash and pulling weeds.
As we worked kids from our English class wandered into the church yard and set to work right beside us.
Many blisters later (pulling weeds is hard!), we were able to look at the yard and see that progress had been made!
There’s something infinitly rewarding about seeing the result of hard work!
That’s what my team saw at the end of our morning. A clean church yard and something even better.
A group of our students, sitting behind the out-house, playing one of the games we taught them in English class last week. Even though it may not be as obvious at the end of the day as a clean yard is, these kids are learning from us. They’re learning new games, English, and that Jesus loves them – and that is the greatest reward we could receive this month.
