Romania made it into my top three favorite months on the race. For sure.
I got to sew, see a cow give birth, milk cows, see my mom, and hang out in a sewing room with my mom. And yes, I’ve not gotten around to blogging about most of those activities.
So, the cows. . .
The calves were absolutely adorable and I’ll tell you about them in a future post!
Now my mom. . .
Yes! She came all the way to Romania to see me!!!
During our last week in Romania my squad got to host our parents for the Parent Vision Trip. PVT is the one week on the race where our parents get to visit us and do ministry with us. It’s the week when parents get to experience the World Race.
So, for the week that our parents were in Romania, my squad worked with Hope Church in a small town called Dragonesti-Olt. Here we evangelized, encouraged members of the local congregation, passed out Bibles, and met with some of the missionaries working in that area.
Meeting with those missionaries over lunch one afternoon led to my favorite morning of the entire week.
This is Florina. She runs a program, affiliated with Hope Church, teaching women how to sew, knit, crochet, and weave so they can make money to support themselves and their children.
When I heard what she did I got excited and told her how much I loved to sew! This led to my mom and I being invited to her work room the next morning, so that I could draft a choir robe pattern.
Yes, a choir robe pattern. Isn’t it great how God always knows what we need and provides it for us? Florina’s shop had received an order for choir robes, and she had no idea where to find a pattern for such a thing. Well, I have plenty of pattern adapting experience, and a little bit of pattern drafting experience. Thus, when Florina asked if I could draft her a choir robe pattern, I agreed, and brought my mom along for the ride.
My mom and I had an amazing morning together! Florina’s husband served us English tea when we arrived and we got to learn a little about the local church and ministries. Then, while I drafted the pattern, my mom and I were able to talk and catch up on what life has held for each of us over the past 8 months.
Having my mom with me, in a sewing room, in Romania? It was the perfect end to one of my favorite months!
