“God, I know you’re my heavenly father and that you’re always with me, but right now I really want my Daddy. I miss him God. I want a hug from him, you can’t hug me God!”

This was my internal prayer during Worship Service the evening of our first day at our ministry site here in Colombia.

As excited as I was to finally be on the race, and finally, after approximently 3 days of travel, be at our ministry site, our home, for the month, I was a little homesick. It was hitting me that I wouldn’t be seeing my family for nearly a year, and I missed them. I really wanted a hug from my dad, and the fact that God is my heavenly father just didn’t seam like enough in that moment.

As much as I miss my dad though, God is always enough. Even though God couldn’t physically hug me in that moment he found ways to remind me of his presence and love for me.

With the beggining of my World Race I have started reading a couple Psalms every day in addition to my regular Bible reading. That evening, after worship was over, I read Psalm 23. It’s a good reminder of God’s love, provision, and constant presence. Then, I was flipping through the rest of the Psalms and randomly stopped at Psalm 139. You want a reminder of God’s presence and love for you? Read Psalm 139, right now!

Verse 10 really struck a chord with me:

“Even there Your hand will lead me,

Your right hand will lay hold of me.”

God has his hand on me very where I go. No, I can’t phycally feel it like I can a hug from my Daddy, but God is holding me all the same. He’s always with me, no matter where I go.

That night, as I was falling asleep God gave me somehing more. The song “Angel Armies”, which I hadn’t heard in a while, started running through my mind.

“I know who goes before me, I know who comes behind;

The God of angel armies is always by my side!

I know who reigns forever, he is a friend of mine;

The God of angel armies is always by my side!”

God was telling me he was there. It was like he was giving me a hug by giving me that song that night. God is my friend. God is my heavenly Father. He is always with me, even when I’m a little homesick.
