This month was our all girls month at the El Shaddai orphanage on the top of a mountain in Swaziland. My team changed as we said good bye to the men; they continued on another hour to a different orphanage. We arrived and split up to find our bunks and I can tell you now that I survived a whole month living in a small house with 22 girls, 2 bathrooms, 1 kitchen, and a breath-taking view of the Swaziland. 🙂
The day in the life includes
5:30 – 6 wake up
6 – 7:30 Jesus time
7:30 breakfast
8 – 1 ministry – usually manual labor (raking fall leaves, picking up trash on the property, cleaning the pig pens, gardening, deep cleaning the children’s dorms)
1 – 2 lunch
2 – 3 team time or personal time
3 – 5 tutoring my buddy, Maria
5 – 5:30 Chapel for the kids
5:30 – 6:30 team time or personal time
6:30 -7:30 dinner
7:30 free time
The time with the girls was challenging but very beneficial. I learned a lot about myself and a lot about the grace of God. But this is the devotional one of my squamates had for us the first day of ministry and it stuck with me the whole month and really settled in my heart.
Proverbs 31: 30-31 “Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.”
