On November 30th, Pan De Vida and Extreme Response International, served over 300 children and adults living in extreme poverty in Ecuador. By God’s provision through the generous donations of a lot of people and companies, we were able to provide everyone with a hot dinner, candy bags, and the children received a Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child shoebox, but much more than those gifts, they heard the Gospel, the Good News of Jesus Christ. Pan De Vida will be holding more Christmas parties on the 16th,17th, and 18th of December. Please be praying for those parties, that many will give their lives to Jesus. Ecuadorians primarily associate themselves as Catholic, so be praying that they’ll truly know Jesus as their Savior, Lord, and Messiah. The kids who received gifts all were so joyful and happy to receive a present! God is evidently moving in the lives of the beneficiaries who come to Pan De Vida.
On Saturday we volunteered with Extreme Response International and the Christmas party they hold annually at the Quito Dump.
The very first Christmas Party in the Quito Dump was held in December 1997 with more than 300 people in attendance. It has since grown to more than 2,400 each year. The dump was permanently closed as a dumping site in 2005 because the landfill was full. The site is now a transfer station where garbage is trucked in, dumped in a roofed area, sorted through and then reloaded into trucks to be taken to a location outside the city.” (http://extremeresponse.org/how-we-serve/quito-dump/)
The Christmas party lasted for about 5 hours , over 1,500 people attended, and Extreme Response Evangelized to everyone attending. There were games, crafts, face painting, Pictures with Santa, and when they left they received food bags, lunch, children received Samaritan’s Purse Christmas shoeboxes, and a booklet which told the life of Jesus. It was truly an amazing experience and everyone who came really enjoyed all the fun activities. I got to serve in the crafts, making Christmas buttons and crowns for kiddos and adults. Our team went with Pan De Vida a week after arriving in Ecuador to serve those still affected by the earthquake. We handing out hygiene, clothes, food, and baby kits. Now we are heading back again to not only give them physically what they need to survive but also to witness and show the love and living hope of Jesus Christ!
8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”
16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told. ( Luke 2:4-20)
