When asked the question what is your main goal in life, an array of answers take center stage in our lives, especially in America. The answers you might hear includes, living the American Dream, making lots of money, having a nice house with nice cars in a nice quiet neighborhood. Get married, have a family. Find happiness, find true love, the list goes on and on. Possessions we can acquire, seeking acceptance from others. Seeking, searching, looking, longing, wanting! What is your main goal in life?

Those who choose to follow Christ, main goal in life must be to become more like Christ, not only through our words but also our actions. Often wrapped up in our own worlds where everything tries to grab our attention, we become distracted from the truth. I became distracted from the truth, and the way we must live and are called to live. Life is much more than the constant distractions of media, work, and leisure. Our human existence longs for relationships. How is your relationship with God? Do you hungry and thirst for His Word, do you seek Him earnestly?

My relationship with God use to be secondary, I followed His commandments, went to church and youth group, talked about Christ but other things took my main focus. I loved the Lord, yet my heart wasn’t radically broken for the lost individuals of the world and radically changed by the love of Christ that I couldn’t help but feel my heart physically hurting for lost souls, His creation. I was focused on what I wanted God to do in my life that I neglected those who need the love of Jesus the most, those who haven’t been reached. The moment I completely surrender my life, future, security, and comfort to Jesus was the moment He had answered my prayer. I prayed a lot last year asking God what He wanted me to do with my life. I couldn’t accept what society was telling me to do in life. Stay here, stay comfortable and quiet your conscience from thinking about the millions who go to bed hungry tonight. The billions who live in darkness, and those who are trapped and surrounded in sin, I couldn’t get this thought out of my mind. God was and continues to break my heart for the lost and hurting world.

Often distraction takes the best of our days, weeks, years, decades until we look back and question why exactly we were created? Each day we are alive, God has purpose for our lives. It’s not mere chance or destiny that your heart is beating, your lungs are inhaling and exhaling, your blood is circulating throughout your body, your brain is working to give directions to your actions. God created us so that our bodies are working without us mentally and physically tell it to. God has you and I alive today at this moment in history since the creation of the world because He has a specific, wonderfully, intelligently designed purpose for your life and my life that He created us to fulfill.

That being said I must say that in the last year specifically God has completely changed my life. It all started with drawing near to Him. “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you…” (James 4:8). Christianity is relationship not religion. The only way we can build and further our relationship with God is by spending time with Him, and learning all about Him. I will forsake all to be His disciple, and I must obey the call He has asked me to journey on. God has revealed to me my purpose in life, He has called me to go on this mission trip. I would rather live each day according to God’s will and suffer trials then spend any day outside of it for my own pleasure. I am obeying Gods call, now the question is are you? “Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the suffering for the gospel according to the power of God, who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began”(2 Timothy1:8-9).

It is not enough to say you’re a Christian. If you’re changed by the love of Christ live and breathe that reflection.
