Kedesh is the boys orphanage my team has been living at. Let me tell you, I wouldn't really call it an orphanage. Maybe my Idea of orphanage has been skewed from all the horror movies that take place in orphanages. You know, the fat old ugly lady that has a torture chamber when the kids misbehave. And make them have no fun with quite dinners with only a piece of moldy bread.
Well this orphanage isn't taking you far from home it brings you closer. It's run by an American, John, and with the help of the wonderful Heather. John isn't fat or ugly. Maybe a little old. I'm not sure. But he wants to have fun by always having stocked water balloons, popcorn and movie almost every night, meat parties(meaning we get to eat meat, something other than rice, beans, and greens. Yes we get really excited), volleyball tournaments, etc. you get it a lot of fun. And Heather is the sweetest. She has committed her time to playing, teaching, having fun, and loving the boys.
Each of us was assigned a boy to be friends with. We would do all their chores with them. So me my friend would watch the cows. The bull would like to run some times so we would have to yell so people could run. And we would start cooking dinner around 2. It typically started by going to the garden to find the the greens. He is a shy and quiet boy but has good sense of humor.
We all created a huge bond with the kids so it's hard to leave. It has been a great month. Hopefully I won't cry when I leave!
