Some days on the race are hard. In fact, a lot of them are hard. It’s a lot harder than you think to be constantly shoved out of your comfort zone. But I suppose the whole purpose is to teach you to lean on God and push through, even when it is the last thing you want to do. Going home would be easy. Staying on the race is the hard part.
Now don’t get me wrong, I love this life that I live. I love being on the race, it’s just harder than I thought it would be most of the time. But I’ve come to learn the hard things are the most necessary. If it weren’t hard, it would be boring.
After a particularly hard couple of days, I was exhausted. I have this chronic issue of running away from everything hard, and I was so tired of running. I slumped over on my bed one morning, dreading the day and what it would entail, and I pulled out my iPod. I pushed shuffle on all 2,319 songs, just hoping for one that would give me some kind of hope,  and the one that popped up first was the exact enncouragement that I needed.
Shake it off, shake it off, shake it off, shake it off.
It’s hard to dance with a devil on your back, so shake it off.
It’s hard to dance, it’s hard to be joyful with a devil on your back, so shake it off.
Just shake it off. It’s that simple.
I feel like the past couple days I have been wandering around Pretoria with a bunch of devils on my back.
Sometimes things get a little crazy on the race. Sometimes they get hard, but most times they are the best moments of my life. Sometimes it sucks, but a lot of the time it’s so good. I proclaimed here that I would continue to push through because I had found an unending joy that plowed through the storms, so when the hard, uncomfortable things come and jump on my back to weigh me down, I just need to shake it off and keep dancing.
It’s hard to dance with a devil on your back, so shake it off.
Today I’m shaking them off, and I’m gonna dance my heart out.
