Thank you so much for your prayers for my travel and sanity! God is faithful as usual and I made it home with zero delays and no problems. I went immediately to see Grandpa and his first words were ‘”I was waiting for you”. He is still hanging with us, but his time on this side of heaven is short.
As I traveled there were so many things that made me chuckle and I missed having my racers with me to laugh at the silly things we noticed. I grabbed a napkin on the plane and started keeping a list of all my first impressions and thought I would share them with you.
**I can actually understand the people talking around me. They are having conversations in a language I know and understand! It is kind of funny to be walking and to be able to listen to conversations.
**I am no longer a celebrity! Anyone who has traveled to the 3rd World understands that white people (MZUNGUS!) are a novelty and we attract attention wherever we go. Strange that as I walk through the airport here no one really notices me and I am certainly not drawing a crowd! 🙂
**There is ice in my drink!!!
**Everyone here is so plugged in. I have yet to walk by a person yet who is not talking on their phone, texting or sending emails. I think I had forgotten how attached we were to these things in our society. Makes me wonder why we need to have a iphone attached to our ear to feel important???
**The Toliets flush AND so does the toliet paper. I can’t really explain my level of excitement about this!!!
**No one is smiling…we have toilets that flush, COLD drinks, roads that are smooth and paved, and every electronic gadget known to man….but yet there are a lot of grumpy people wandering around. hmmmm….
**I definitely feel like I am moving in slow motion while everyone else is moving at warp speed. Either the African slowness has infiltrated my body, or everyone else took speed this morning.
**80’s FASHION. Wow–not at all prepared for the long sweaters, leggings and side ponies!
I will continue my list and let you know any other funny things I notice. God’s grace has made this transition fairly seamless and I thank you for your prayers. I have so much I want to share and will work on getting caught up as we sit and wait.
