I first met Heather at Training Camp when she was my leader. Throughout camp our teams were moved around many times and Heather and I always remained on the same team. I remember riding around in her car in GA as we made Wal-Mart runs and sleeping on the floor of the AIM office next to her all week as we froze!
By the end of camp, we were on different teams, but both leaders. As we prepared for our time on the Race we spent time on conference calls as leaders and shared our fears of leading our amazing teammates. At the start of the Race I remember discussing how scared we were of leading, but the Lord has been so faithful and built her into an amazing leader. I can’t imagine anyone else leading Team Lego as well as she has. I could always count of Heather to support decisions and speak truth. She is famous for her deep discussions and has theological knowledge that I can only dream of having. She loves to analyze the Bible and discuss varying viewpoints.
Heather overcame a rough childhood that eventually led her to the Lord and graduated from Clemson University. She is an extremely loyal fan and could be found searching espn.com anytime possible for the latest football scores. She is a sports nut and avid baseball and football fan. When I was with Team Lego throughout the Race she was frequently my running partner and spurred me on to do ab workouts.
I have watched the Lord do a huge work in Heather throughout the year and take her from being a trepidacious leader to one who leads with authority and conviction. It has been awesome to see her work through issues of self-worth and identity. She also has one of the most easy-going attitudes of anyone I know and is fun to be around. It was my pleasure to serve alongside of her all year.
Heather, the Lord is preparing you for some amazing things. The way He has worked in your life this year has been a pleasure to watch. Thank you for always being so faithful and trustworthy. Thank you for making me smile when I needed a smile and letting me cry when things were hard. I can’t wait to hear where He leads you next.
