I’d set my alarm for a short nap before dinner and I was awaken by a squadmate popping her head into the room saying, “Squad meeting right now, upstairs.”
We all assemble. The news is announced and chaos erupts.
There’s been a route change.
We’re leaving Albania to go to Greece as soon as possible.
We’ll be joining the efforts to support Syrian refugees in Lesvos.
Whoa. This is big. So many thoughts go through my mind.
We’re leaving Albania and the farm? What about our projects?
Greece? Greece!
We’re going to work with refugees?
This is big.
No matter what you think or seen on the news about the crisis in Syria and the refugees that are fleeing into Europe, the fact is that they are people. People who are crossing seas in rickety rafts and washing up on the shores of other countries.
In a few days we’ll be standing on those shores, extending a hand to people stepping off the rafts.
Our squad is leaving Albania tonight, Wednesday, October 21, on a bus to Athens and from there we’ll take a ferry to the island of Lesvos. We’re going to be divided into two 12-hour shifts and assisting with processing refugees along with a number of other tasks.
The days will be long. The work will be hard. It will so be worth it. The video below is from Samaritan’s Purse will give you a picture of what our days could look like.
Yes, we’re leaving the farm early, but we’ve spent the last two days working hard to wrap up projects we’d been working on. I scooped a lot of chicken poop yesterday. Our ministry host is graciously sending us forward to work with people in immediate need.
Please keep us in your prayers as we embark on an unexpected chapter in our World Race. God is on the move.
