Let me write a little bit of what we have done this month…

Our ministry started off by pastor telling us
we would be going to an “island” church.
We were all excited to see what an island church would be like so we set
out on our trek.  After three Dala Dala
rides (public transport in the form of a van) a mile walk, a ferry ride, and
another Dala Dala ride we end up at our “Island” church.  A total of three hours of travel and it turns
out it is not an Island it is actually just a part of Dar es Salaam called Kigamboni
(not sure if that’s spelled right).

Our team does some what we would
call some embarrassing worship in front of our friends on the “island”(not all
of us knew the words to the song we chose)
Thank God Logan taught me the trick of lip sinking Watermelon when you
don’t know the words.  Then we got to see
their form of worship.  It consisted of
some of the congregation acting out the words to the song they were singing
which to us turns into an interpretive dance because we don’t understand the
words anyway.  They also lip sink to the
song that is playing but they don’t look to be using the same trick of
watermelon I think they actually know the words.  Later pastor tells us we should try clapping
with worship, I find it a little passive aggressive but next time we clap and
we fit in a little better.  We visit the
“Island” church a total of three times and each day turns out similar we take
turns speaking in front of the church, sharing our testimonies, teaching, and
preaching.  Our friends on the “island”
say that they are very blessed by our coming and sharing so I guess our bad
singing was worth it.  Don’t forget we have a three hour trek home!

We have also done some preaching
and teaching at our contacts church throughout the week, and have had an
opportunity to speak at an all girls school.

We also shared our faith with a group of about seven young men we ran
into on the street.  We found out they
were into using drugs and were very interested in our testimonies in how God has
transformed our lives.

We plan to visit a few other
churches and may be doing some door to door ministry. A lot of our ministry
this month has been investing into our team and our contacts.  One day this past week our team decided to
hold a 24 hour prayer.  Outside of
ministry we can be found playing a spades game or two, baking banana bread and
snicker doodles, making chapatti with our cook, learning to cook traditional
dishes pastor’s wife, or making fresh Mango juice.
