Sitting in the middle of Kompet, Cambodia on top of my bed and surrounded by fresh air and a totally new environment. We are staying at our contact, Vuthi’s place, called Mercy House. We are surrounded by rice fields and tons of green shrubbery as well as lots of mud!
I am so grateful for a school house that was built previously by his team along with other squads and has nice bunk beds that we can sleep on. It could have been such a bad living situation, but it actually feels really welcoming and cozy. There are a million bugs of different sizes and functions almost in a gross way around lights. There are also plenty of farm animals here, but I guess that’s what you would need to be self-sufficient in the middle of rice fields.
The weirdest situation yet was this afternoon at brunch when we had ducks, chickens, roosters and dogs running between our legs wanting food from our plates. I was so scared of that silly duck who kept pecking at the dogs for coming by. I was praying in my head that it would not come near me and that it would go to another area and God honored that prayer.
After lunch we got a little time of rest and then we had orientation to this new cite, he said that we would be working teaching 4 English classes and that we would also lead Sunday services. Just as I expected, teaching and preaching. Until… He said we would also be working in the rice field and helping cultivate the rice. SAY WHAT?
Something I never thought I would get to do in my life and here is a perfect opportunity to try something new. Jesus help me! We have to be in mud… YUCK! I guess this is part of that process huh!?
Vuthi shared his testimony with us and what God did to get him to this place. We heard such a captivating message of God’s redemptive work. He came home the first time a gangster who was an alcoholic and when he came back the second time, he was a docile man of God. What a beautiful story!
I saw his heart for the kids of this village to be educated and for God to work through them. His dependence on the Holy Spirit is very encouraging and definitely something for us to learn from him.
I am excited to see what God does here in this ministry in us and through us. I cannot wait to see some of things that I have been praying for my team to start breaking though our daily team times. I believe we could be such a powerful force for the kingdom if we allow ourselves to be transformed.
