Its almost 2am and I’m still up packing for this trip of a lifetime and so I thought I’d share with you the process of packing for 11 months…in one pack (plus a carry-on and purse).
I have spent the last week gathering last minute supplies, the list seems to never end, and have finally finished…for the most part. Once I found out I was accepted to go on the World Race I started collecting items here and there, running to REI just to look around and always leaving the store with spending no less than $100 each time. My parents have graciously allowed me to takeover their living room (thanks mom and dad!) for the last month as I checked more items off the packing list.
For domestic flights, and some international, our packs can weigh 50 lbs but for Asian flights luggage cant weigh more than 44 lbs. I thought this would be tricky as my pack fro training camp weighed 38lbs but surprisingly it wasnt tooo hard.
Weighing my pack…42lbs!!
I really wanted to stay organized this year (sooo weird not saying ‘next year’ anymore!) so I divided everything into seperate bags with color corrdinating ribbons so I know exactly what is in each stuff cube.
Just to give you an idea of what I had to pack:
10 shirts
1 fleece
3 skirts (coverts from floor length to knee length to dresses!)
2 long skirts
2 pants
1 bathingsuit
2 scarves
12 underroos
3 socks
3 shoes ( sneakers, sturdy flip flops, & Toms)
Lots of medicine
Camp towel
Electronics (itouch, netbook, camera, external harddrive, backup batteries for all)
Sleeping bag w/ liner
Tent (I almost forgot my tent poles…oops)
Sleeping pad
Down pillow & travel blow up pillow
Small blanket
Outlet converter
Tiny travel hair straightener (probably the first thing I’ll ditch but I want to feel like a girl sometimes)
Collapsible bowl, utensils, mini spice rack…gotta spice up our constant meals of rice
Lots of hand sanitizer
Passport, tickets, and all that mumbojumbo
hopefully I didn’t forget anything!
I’ll miss you all and will see you in 11 months! I hope to get in another blog on the plane to LAX tonight or before we head to Thailand!
My plan…if I can…is to send out newsletters every 3 months, via email, to recap what we’ve done in each country so make sure you’ve subscribbed to my blog so I have your email!
