“Moses thought that his own people would realize that God was using him to rescue them, but they did not.” Acts 7:25

Moses came to a place in his life where he had to choose between his identity as an Egyptian and his identity as an Israelite. I don’t know what events led him to his decision, but when it came to the point of choosing, Moses stepped out as an Israelite.

Moses was a deliverer. And despite the Israelites’ attitude, Moses walked as a deliverer: It was Moses that consistently went before Pharaoh. It was Moses that stood in confidence before the Lord at the Red Sea, challenging the people to stand firm because the Lord would fight for them. It was Moses that went before the Lord, asking for provision in the desert. And it was Moses that stood between God and the people when His anger burned against them.

While the Israelites constantly overlooked what God was doing, Moses’ identity did not diminish. And I’ve learned that like Moses, people won’t always see who God has called me to be, but that doesn’t exempt me from walking in it.

People will be against me, speak against me, and complain against me. They will feel like I have failed them, and they won’t always honor where God has placed me. But I have stood on holy ground. I have had words placed in my mouth. And I‘m not called to walk based on others’ belief in me; I am called to walk based on Christ’s belief in me. He paid a price for me and put potential in me…I have no excuse for not walking in it.

And whether I see it in the moment or not, it’s worth every battle, every struggle, every challenge. Why leave Pharaoh’s palace for the desert unless there’s promise in it?

So, I challenge you to step into who God has called you to be and don’t apologize because you have stood before a burning bush while others walk in slavery. Walk in promise because not walking in your identity is like being an Egyptian when you are called to be an Israelite.
