Sorry it’s been so long since my last update! We finished up launch in Antigua, Guatemala. We had awesome fellowship, good food, fun times getting lost looking for a bagel place that has chocolate chip cream cheese, and ended with a beautiful horse ride up an active volcano. We met with Erin, the logistics person, on Tuesday to find out where we would be doing ministry for the month, and much to our surprise we are now in Honduras! It’s a good thing we gave up our expectations for our race route at training camp, because we experienced a change within the first few days of the world race. Most of the teams are still in Guatemala, one in El Salvador, and we’re staying with one other team outside of Tegucigalpa, the capitol of Honduras.
My team actually had internet time on Friday, but I had quite a morning. We had to drive into town for internet and had a ton of things to do so we didn’t have much time. I spent forever trying to get credit on my skype account so I could call my family to get on to talk to them…FAIL. It was somehow still set to Australian dollars from when I studied abroad and I couldn’t change it. I was overwhelmed by facebook and didn’t talk to anyone I wanted to (sorry!). Our internet time was in Burger King, so I decided to order some food which took forever because my espanol sucks. God did not bless me with the gift of speaking other languages and pretty much everytime I try to communicate, it’s a huge struggle. I told my teammates I’m going to be a pro by the time Costa Rica rolls around…we’ll see. Anyways, I ended up spending most of my time writing a blog and FAIL again. I went to my blog list, because I posted it twice and accidently deleted it. Sweet. Go me…how typical. I was so frustrated and everyone was waiting on me. So I quickly grabbed my stuff together, threw my trash from the tray away and piled into Tony’s car. 10 mintues later…FAIL agian. I can’t find my debit card. AH! I was so frustrated with myself because that’s so typical of me. I felt terrible and we had to turn around in the crazy Honduran traffic to hopefully find my debit card. After digging through the BK trash cans I found my debit card, thank you God. I guess that’s my long story to say why I haven’t updated anyone lately (sorry Momma ha).
This blog is being posted via Phil because it’s their day for the internet. Thanks Phil 🙂 I am already working on my next blog to explain what our ministry is for this month, so I’ll post that sometime this week when we get to internet. In a nutshell, we’re living on an awesome farm on 120 acres in the mountains with an amazing man of God, Tony. He’s from Utah and completely gave up everything he had to move here a few years ago because of his passion for the people in Honduras. He truly lives a life of servitude and I’ve already learned so much from him in the short time we’ve been here. He’s focused on relationships with people in the community we’re in, El Horno, and a family living in a very dark and hopeless village, Los Pinos.
We had a huge fiesta Friday night with a lot of people in both of the communities and they are so loving and full of life. I can’t wait to build more on the relationships with these beautiful people. Only our team leaders have been to Los Pinos to have a meeting there, but on Monday all 13 of us are going there to declare the community back to God and figure out our “gameplan” for the month. Allan and Mary both said that the community has absolutely no hope for things to get better. There is so much violence and evil that has taken over, that the community sees no future. We know that our efforts to bring hope in such a dark place is impossible. But God’s light shines the brightest in the darkest of places, and with Him we will bring hope for this community. Please pray for our teams on Monday that we will boldy walk in the plans the Lord has for Los Pinos and that the people there will experience hope for the first time in their community.
Sorry for the scatter-brained blog and few details, but I will update yall more in depth next time I have the internet. I’m absolultely loving my time here so far…love you all!
“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to seperate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39
