Hello friends!
First, let me apologize for not writing about my time in Haiti sooner. We’ve been busy, and the internet is not as readily available as it was in the DR.
This blog is going to give you some general facts about our time in Haiti so far.
Living Conditions: We’ve lived in 2 houses. Our first house was quite large, and much nicer than I was expecting coming into Haiti. We had multiple rooms, as well as, 2 showers… 2! It was very unexpected, but all a blessing from God! Then our second house (where we are currently) is directly across the street from our first house and we are living above the Pastor. It is smaller, but we have enough room, and we still have running water!! However, we do have some roommates….6 cockroaches and counting, plus a nice-sized tarantula with an egg sack the size of Texas (she is no longer with us, just to clear the air).
Temperature: It’s hot. When the sun is out, the heat comes with it. Although, at night, the air is cool and I’ve even been able to sleep INSIDE my sleeping bad, instead of on it. Little blessings!! We get a lot of clouds and it rains a lot at night.
Topography: Beautiful. The landscape is breathtaking. From our rooftop, we can see where the Caribbean meets the mountains.
Food: Delicious! I did not realize how much I love rice and beans. Seriously! We also have 3 ladies from the church who offer to cook our meals for us. They are amazing cooks!! Fresh fruit juices, fried plantains, and the best seasoned chicken I’ve ever had!
Church: The church we are working with meets in an alley way. An alley way covered by a tarp. There is space for the passerby’s to walk by during the service. These people are committed to praising God, and they let that praise radiate through the streets of Carrefour. (A more specific blog about the church to follow soon!)
Ministry: In Carrefour, we are spending a good bit of time walking the streets, and talking and praying with people (it’s safe here). The people are very receptive and extremely generous and hospitable towards us. My team is also conducting s VBS 2 days a week (for 4 weeks total). We are loving it! The kids are so happy and energetic. We sing songs, do a Bible study, and have memory verses. These children, and the opportunity to serve them, has been such a blessing this month.
I hope this blog has given you a better insight into what my team and I have been doing in Haiti this month. Again, your prayers have been received. I can feel God working all around me. I know that I am blessed. I am blessed by you. I will try and post some photos soon!! Keep the prayers coming!!
