From the time I stepped foot onto the plane headed towards Delhi, India to now, that question has been running through my head. To say that I am in awe of life on the World Race would be an understatement…and I’ve only been in Nepal for less than a week! I’ve already seen so many incredible places and things, and have met a lot of amazing people.
My squad arrived in Nepal on Saturday, July 5th, and my team as well as 2 other teams spent the first couple of nights in Lalitpur, just north of Kathmandu. We were given a little info about our ministry for the month, got to explore the markets of Kathmandu (and bought some Nepali pants!), but mostly we got to rest and be blessed by an incredible family.
Monday my team split from the other 2 teams and headed north to the town of Dhulikhel where we stayed with another awesome family and got to rest some more.
Tuesday our host took us out to explore a little. We hiked roughly 6 miles up & down some massive hills (that I would consider mountains) and I cannot even begin to describe the views. We walked up 700+ steps to take selfies with a giant gold Buddha statue, climbed even more steps up a tower to see yet more breathtaking views, and then took what was so far the most terrifying (yet exhilarating) bus ride I’ve ever been on…still not sure how we didn’t fall out.
Wednesday we started our first day of ministry, which involved going to a school and speaking to the staff. A few of us shared our testimonies and spoke about the gospel and human trafficking, which is a huge issue in this area. We also received news that we would be moving again and doing another ministry about 2 hours north of Dhulikhel in a village called Kothe. While we were sad to be leaving our wonderful host and his ministry, we all trusted our contact’s advice and that The Lord would lead us where we were needed most. So we packed up, crammed 8 people into a truck (2 in back) and headed up farther into the mountains…again seeing even more of God’s perfect creation, and stopped along the way to enjoy some momo for lunch (delicious!).
My team is staying in a church on the side of a giant “hill”, next to the Sukote (Golden) River…with a beautiful bridge that has quickly become a favorite spot of ours. We will be working with an organization called M.A.T. (Mothers Against Trafficking) and speaking at some of their classes. We’ll also be going out and visiting with some of the locals in and around the village. I’m already so in love with this area and the people and I can’t wait to see how God works in and through my team during our time here.
I’ve also almost mastered the art of the squatty potty & quick, cold showers! Also hand-washed and line-dried my laundry for the first time…and I can honestly say that while it’s challenging, I’m loving the simplicity of life here.
Please be in prayer for me and my team as we continue our ministry this month, and thank you SO much for your love, encouragements, and support so far.
More updates to come later! <3
