Plans change on the World Race. A lot.
Missions = flexibility!
So our day was planned out and then those plans were canceled at the last minute. A group of us decided to walk down to Anonos, a very poor area near our house.
We had no plan.
5 gringos and a soccer ball.
As we were walking down the hill, we noticed a huge gathering in an outdoor school gym.
Balloons, clowns, Christmas songs; I’m there!
It was amazing. There were about a hundred kids there, plus their parents. Since all the kids in Anonos were at this gathering, we decided to stay. Out of the corner of my eye I noticed Natalia, a girl I met at english church earlier in the week.
Her spanish church, along with another local ministry, were throwing a huge Christmas party for this poor area of town! We jumped right in with helping.
Face painting. Limbo. The Nativity story. Hot dogs.
My favorite part was at the end of the event, every kid got a present, a bag of candy and a gospel tract. These are kids who would not be getting anything for Christmas this year.
Zip.
Zero.
Nada.
Nilch.
Seeing the kid’s eyes light up for a jump rope or a toy car brought joy to my life.
It was so great to be a part of that. It wasn’t in our original plans for the day but it ended up being the best day ever!
