This month has been a bit different then a regular month on the race. This month my team and I are doing Unsung Heroes ministry. What this means is we’re looking for missionaries, pastors, existing ministries, churches, etc. who are already doing God’s work in this community so that in the future we can send Racers to serve them for a month. This month we’ve found exceptional people who are passionately serving their communities and are so excited to see the World Race partner with them.

Not only did we find some awesome contacts but we’ve made some friends that have impacted my world. The first Sunday my team was here we decided to go to a local church. Walking in the doors we were hoping to find a great UH contact, what we encountered in this church was not what we expected. We encountered bright smiling faces, welcoming hand shakes, and hospitality like I’ve never experienced. I was blown away by how friendly these church volunteers were, but it wasn’t until after church that I really understood how amazing these people really are. My team and I made our way around the church after the service talking to the pastors, and shaking random hands and meeting new faces. It was at this point that I realized how amazing these people are – all of a sudden my team and I were surrounded by a group of people who couldn’t wait to find out all about us. They wanted to know our names, why we are here, what we are doing, and lastly they wanted to invite us out for lunch. Before I knew it we were being split between cars and whisked away to the best banana leaf place around! These people poured love into us, they spoke life into us, they invested in getting to know everything they could about us. It didn’t just stop after Sunday – the entire time we’ve been in KL they’ve continued to pursue us. We see these friends often, we join them in ministry, we spend time just hanging out.

I continue to be blown away by the love they show my team and I. I have never in my entire life experienced such instant friendships, such immense love in a couple hours. These people love like Christ. They took us in, and embraced us, they’ve continued to pursue us relentlessly. They are an inspiration to me. They’ve showed us what it looks like to have immense faith (they pray healing over people all the time, sometimes leaving in the middle of dinner to follow a man down a road – leading to his whole family seeing Christ move), they’ve showed us what it looks like to love like Christ. They’ve taught us about constantly pursuing friendships and Christ. They’ve become family and knowing we have to leave such a loving community is breaking my heart.

To the wonderful crew I’ve come to love, and am heartbroken to leave (you know who you are).
I can’t thank you enough for everything you’ve done for me. For all the blessings, for all the love, for pursuing my friendship even if it means having to drive all over KL. You guys are incredible. I LOVE YOU GUYS more then words could ever say. Continue to chase after Jesus and being lights in your communities.
