10.7.10

Currently, I have the song lyrics “greater things are yet to come, greater things are still to be done in this city.” That is my prayer for Puerto Barrios. We had two hours of intercession this morning, basically two hours of prayer where we lifted up the different ministries that are a part of the ministry we are visiting, we lifted up the city, and we lifted up the members of the ministry team, as well as our teams and our squad. It was a good bonding time for our team and several of the guys from the ministry site. Besides Paul, most of the people on our ministry site speak very little English and most of the people on our team speak very little Spanish, so I guess we will all improve our Spanglish this month. Three of the guys prayed with us for two hours though I doubt they understood much of what was being said; that’s patience.

I was drawn to Isaiah 45 as we were praying. It seems overwhelming to pray for a whole city especially when there is so much corruption and crime. I want my prayers to be specific and tangible and it was difficult for that to do. Then I read Isaiah 45, God annoints and empowers His chosen ones and is able to paralyze mighty kings with fear, open fortress gates, level mountains, smash gates, and cut through bars of iron. Our God is a mighty God. I don’t want to keep Him in this box. In Philippians 4:6 we are told to not worry about anything but instead to pray about everything. As Joyce Meyer taught me in the Bible study I went to with my mom right before I launched, this tells us that prayer affects everything; EVERYTHING can be affected by prayer. We are called to pray. Change, especially lasting change, that we want for these cities can only be accomplished through prayer and through the Holy Spirit working in us. Would you partner with us and pray that the Holy Spirit would shine through us to promote hope and healing in this city? Would you pray for the specific ministries that are happening through this site?

Specifically the ministires are: a house for missionaries to provide a place to stay when missionaries come and serve here (we are currently the benefactors of this ministry), an internet cafe ministry for children in the area to learn how to use the internet and to be able to complete their studies, taking food to children (orphans) who live at the local dump, and a Christian internet radio station. Paul and his ministry is also planning on having a large concert at the end of the year to raise money for the radio station. These are all areas that need significant amounts of prayer. But thankfully we serve a faithful Lord who promises to take care of us and to work things out for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. It was wonderful for me to realize that Our Father is doing this for His glory, but in it what He really wants is a relationship with us. He wants more and more of the people on this earth to become His children and love Him as their Father.

I was talking with Brandi Jo from Team Brady and she shared that God showed her that He provides to her in so many ways. Often when we think of provision we might think of food, clothing, cars, jobs, etc. But the Lord is there working out who we are going to be in relationship with, who is going to love us, who is going to care for us, who we are going to come across. The Lord is providing in every way for His glory and to that I say thank you!
