*** To start, Taylor: I’m a big fan. I know you hear it all the time, but you are extremely talented. Like you, I would call myself a follower of Jesus. I’m currently on The World Race, which is an 11-month, 11-country mission trip around the world spreading the love of Jesus. I would love for you to read my blog below and give it a shout out on Twitter if you so feel inclined!***

The song in question is on Taylor Swift’s new album, Red. The song is titled “22”.

If you’re an alumni racer, I just want you to close your eyes and think back on your race. Think about the good times and the bad times. The moments where you wanted time to stand still and the moments where you WISHED you were home in America!  With all that in mind, play the song at the bottom of the page.

If you haven’t been on the race, let’s take a moment to discuss some of the lyrics to this song and share what really happens on the race.

It feels like a perfect night to dress up like hipsters
And make fun of our exes uh uh uh uh
(verse 1)

It happens. I mean… you get tired of wearing the same 5 shirts, 3 pairs of shorts, and one pair of jeans, so playing dress-up is a welcome change. And the making fun of our exes thing… Everyone does it, lets be real.

It feels like a perfect night for breakfast at midnight
To fall in love with strangers uh uh uh uh
(verse 1b)

On the field, it’s always a good time for breakfast… ALWAYS… ALWAYS. Trust me.  Falling in love with strangers is a pretty normal part of everyday life on the race, your teammates, your contacts, random people on the street… it just becomes normal.

Yeaaaah we're happy free confused and lonely at the same time
It's miserable and magical oh yeaaaaaaah
Tonight's the night when we forget about the deadlines
It's time uh uh
(Bridge)

If you’ve been on the race, the above will speak for itself… I cant think of a better set of words to describe the race… Miserable and magical. Yep, sounds exactly right. Miserable when you’re hungry or have malaria or have typhoid, Or you’re hungry with Malaria and typhoid at the same time, Ohhhh yeah! And magical when you realize how truly blessed you are to have been given the honor and privilege of sharing the love of Christ as you travel around the world! Oh and deadlines, who stresses about them? No one… really, no one.

It seems like one of those nights
This place is too crowded
Too many cool kids uh uh uh uh
It seems like one of those nights
We ditch the whole scene
And end up dreaming instead of sleeping
(verse 2)

Sounds like a debrief to me, nuff said.

I write all of this to say, obviously Taylor Swift has somehow snuck onto The World Race without us knowing and is telling the world about her experience without giving the Race the credit that it deserves. It is our responsibility as current racers, alumni racers, future racers, racer parents, friends of racers, really anyone who reads this blog (I’m not picky) to tweet at Taylor Swift asking her for a simple re-tweet with the hashtag #11n11 in it. I will take this simple act by Taylor as a full and complete apology! (Obviously this is a little bit of a stretch, but it’s a little funny right?)

22 million followers. Taylor Swift has tens of thousands of people re-tweet every one of her tweets. If she were to re-tweet, hundreds of thousands, maybe millions, will be exposed to The World Race in one moment. Through one act. Honestly we would probably crash AIM’s servers due to the traffic.

So, consider tweeting this blog at Taylor Swift, and let’s see if we can get a response! Who knows? God works in mysterious ways, including possibly using a teen pop star to spread the Good News of Christ through Twitter.
