I dont know if you've ever been there but I know I have! In diffrent seasons and at diffrent times in my life ive had to seriously wrestle with if I really trusted the God I read about in the Scripture, and the God who had shown Himself trustworthy many time!
When I think about trust and Bible storys I cant help but thing about the story told in Exodus 4:1-3 which says this

1Then Moses answered, "But behold, they will not believe me or listen to my voice, for they will say, 'The LORD did not appear to you.'"2The LORD said to him, "What is that in your hand?" He said, "A staff." 3And he said, "Throw it on the ground." So he threw it on the ground, and it became a serpent, and Moses ran from it.

I can't imagine what Mosses must have been thinking when God asked him to throw his staff on the ground. If you think about the culture back then, Mosses staff was his everything. It was his….

  1. His job (becuase he was a shepherd)
  2. His security (the only thing to protect himself from wolfs or other animals trying to get his sheep)
  3. His marrage (without his staff he couldnt do his job and provide for his family)
  4. His marrage again (Mosses worked for his father-in law so failing at his job would definitely put a strain on there relationship.

Mosses staff was far more than just a peice of wood, it was his everything… and this leads to the big point, sometimes God calls us to throw down our everything and trust that He has a greater purpose that we can see at the time!

What would have happened if Mosses wouldnt have trusted in God with his everything?
What would happen if I/we fail to trust God with what we see as most important?

There is so much more to the story but ill save that for another blog post.
