Hospital Adventures
Its funny sometimes how Jesus occasionally gives me little gifts that make me smile and see His personality more clearly. Today my team and I traveled to the hospital to pray for and visit with the sick. We arrived with hand drawn cards that we created this morning inside the restaurant we live above. When we got to the busy open-aired hospital, our translator explained to the receptionist the reason why we had come, and asked for permission to visit with the patients. Unfortunately, our team was denied access after multiple attempts to enter inside to visit with patients. We were limited to just the lobby and office side of the hospital and we were told we had an hour to try to make connections and pray.
I looked at my teammate Brittany and I saw it in her eyes. She wanted an adventure. And so did I. We walked away from the large group, on a quest for some sort of hospital escapades. We walked towards the cafeteria and found a set of elevators behind it. “Yeah, why not?” We got on and chose randomly to adventure on the fifth floor. Turns out the only thing on that floor was a library with two people inside of it, the librarian and an x-ray technician. They became our friends in a matter of two minutes through some jokes and a few miss-communicated sentences.
We asked if they could take us to see some patients and to our surprise, they guided us into the hospital side with no apprehension. While the rest of our team was in the lobby, Brittany and I were getting access to the three most closed off quarters of the hospital. We walked into the ICU of the hospital and were able to pray and sing with the sickest people in there. There was a family standing over the bed of a loved one who died minutes before we walked in, and we prayed prayers of peace and comfort over them as we walked by. We then visited the children’s ward and some psychiatric patients. It was a beautiful time of loving these people through smiles and holding hands.
What started off as a pursuit of adventure, turned out to be a gift of the Lord’s favor over Brittany and I. I just love the way that Jesus knows my heart and plants people in the random areas He knows I will find, just to give me a giggle. Loving the daily adventures of life in Thailand.
