WELCOME TO NEPAL

My team and I flew into Kathmandu, Nepal on Tuesday excited to begin a new month of adventures and ministry. We landed in a Kathmandu valley completely surrounded by the most beautiful mountains I have seen thus far. My team and I were told we would spend our month in Nepal working together with another coed team from our squad called Braveheart. I was so excited to have a large group together for the month, and it has been so fun to expand our family! We were met at the airport by our host who told us a bit about the ministry and what we would be doing. He said we would be a part of their mountain ministry which involves trekking evangelism and church planting.

We arrived at our new home for the month, which is a beautiful guest house that sits at the base of a mountain. I was so excited when we found out that not only does this house have a shower, but carpet to sleep on as well. Both of those things were music to my ears after our village month. 🙂 This guest house is run by a pastor and his family who  have made us feel very at home. The pastor’s wife cooks all of our meals and so far the food has been amazing. She has made us a lot of beans and rice, oatmeal, and curry pasta. The weather here is a lovely change of pace as well from India. It has been in the 70’s here and very chilly at night.

I am loving our ministry so much this month. Our day looks like this. We wake up for breakfast at 7:30am and eat together on the roof of our home surrounded by the most amazing view of Nepal. We leave after breakfast to begin our mountain evangelism. We hike as a team into tiny villages deep inside the mountain, greeting the Nepali’s with smiling faces and playing with the babies and goats we find along the way. We pass out Bibles written in the Nepali tongue and share why the Lord has brought us here. We hike uphill and down for about 4 hours each day. It is rest time and lunch at 2:00-4:00 pm. We travel to our evening ministry location each night at 4:30pm. Our evening ministry consists of either house church, youth group, or discipleship training. We finish our night ministry at 7:00 pm and hike back to our home for dinner and showers. In the evening, we hang out with our team, debrief the day, do laundry (still in a bucket) and read.

Please be praying for our ministry this month. The territory that we trek through is said to have been completely devoid of Christians up until 8 months ago. The people we talk to have not been very receptive to the gospel message yet, but out team is eager to see miracles happen this month. Yesterday, as we were hiking the tiny village roads, an elderly woman waved me over to her roof top. She was Hindu, as signified by the red dot on her forehead. Our translator assisted me and some teammates and we began to share with her. She quickly waved off our conversations and told us she did not need to hear a story about another God. She told our translator that the only reason she allowed us onto her rooftop was because she saw the red henna on my arm (leftover from India). Apparently henna in Nepal is only for Hindu’s, and the fact that I had it on my arm gave me permission  into her home. Please pray that God continues to go before us and allow us into the homes of people who are very adamant against hearing the gospel.

On the 21st of this month, my team and I are traveling 7 hours into the jungle of Nepal with our pastor to a village that is one of the last “unreached people groups” in this country. We feel blessed and honored to be able to be a part of this journey and are excited to see what will come of it. We will be sharing the Jesus film translated into their language and hosting services daily. My team and I ask that our friends and family back home begin to pray now for this trip, that God would prepare the hearts of the people we will come in contact with.

 God bless you!
