Let’s face it..
While a Racer’s list of experiences and opportunities is extensive we all dream of home at some point while away for so long. Personally, this is the longest and farthest I’ve ever been away from home and the first time I’ve left the country. God called me to rev up my figurative I-6 and downshift from zero to everywhere in a matter of months. So I left everything behind. This trip has been amazing and is not quite over yet.
The sobering part of all this is that we are nearing the end of month ten. With so little time left, my mind has made a few trips back to the United States already. It’s not a bad thing to think of the future once in a while; not to mention it’s near impossible now that we know we’ll be flying into Chicago on December 6th, landing at 2:05pm and that I’ve already got my plane ticket home.
I have some pretty simple aspirations for my immediate arrival to Granby, Connecticut…
There will be a plethora of Crest 3D White toothpaste and I’ll be using my faithful electric toothbrush once again. The world is sorely unaware of how good Crest 3D White is.
There will be no freezing bucket showers in sight; showers will be hot and not run out of water halfway through. I’ll even be able to use two fluffy, clean towels that will not smell like the inside of my backpack.
I’ll be able to drive! Kobe will also be at home. I’ll go wherever I please with no $2 local transport limitations.
I’ll visit one of my favorite locations: the grocery store, haha. I’ll be in control of what goes in my mouth once again, buying kale, spinach, fruits.. anything that’s not a carb or starch, essentially.
After choosing healthy things at the grocery store, I’ll blow all that out the window at Starbucks. The really nice thing is that it won’t be summer temperatures like it’s been all year, so having a hot drink will actually make sense.
I WILL GO SKIING. Admittedly, this has been a next to constant thought amid the everyday beating sunshine..
Alas, the most cost effective and highest placed commodity will ultimately be spending time by myself. Day or night, I will finally be able to take a walk alone. Ah, sweet, sweet silence.
Of course, at some point that song Big Yellow Taxi will probably be parading through my head as it is now. You never know what you’ve got ’till it’s gone..
I’ll probably miss my trusty M-Squad and aspects of this crazy year..
So to finish up: my immediate desires are pretty simple, yet wonderful (at least for me). We speak of re-entry, and I believe there will be times of longing for the things I’ve grown accustomed to this year; yet overall, I think I’ll be fine.
This is the point that I continue to cherish every day that I’ve got left; soak up every last drop of time with this team and keep the simple joys of home on the back burner.
Keep praying for us while we’re out here, yeah? It means so much!
Love you all (:
