Who would I be if I only measured up to the clothes on my back?

I would be every imperfection.

I would be the wrinkle that was missed.

I would be the button that popped off.

I would be the sum of money that paid for fashion.

I would be a brand with a projected reputation.

I would be the clash.

I would be the gaudy accessories.

I would be cheaply manufactured.

I would be presumptuous.

I would be recycled trends.

I would be a make.

I would be unknown.

Who would I be if I was only a body?

I would be in the eyes of all others.

I would be frizzy hair.

I would be less than an athlete.

I would be the chipped nail polish.

I would be the piercings.

I would be the tattoos.

I would be up for debate.

I would be the food I ate.

I would be the activity I accomplished.

I would be a shade of melatonin.

I would be a certain BMI.

I would be rosy cheeked.

I would be a complex shape.

Who would I be if I was only my failures?

I would be stagnant.

I would be a thousand sleepless nights.

I would be offended.

I would be addicted.

I would be internally and externally harmful.

I would be unacceptable.

I would be depressed.

I would be a murderer.

I would be a falsehood.

I would be a liar.

I would be a slave.

I would be lost.

I would be everything I never wanted to be.

Who am I, really?

I am convicted, not condemned.

I am a work in progress.

I am a daughter of the King.

I am joyful.

I am worthwhile.

I am lovely.

I am confidant.

I am peaceful.

I am renewed.

I am enriched.

I am redeemed.

I am free.

I am me.

The simplest of revelations came encountered me today. It was one of those concepts that I've heard one hundred times before; yet, I was never in quite able to drink it down.

I am nothing I own and I am nothing I've done. I am not my hobbies and I am not my pleasures. My identity lies in what's been eternally and irrevocably done for me. My freedom lies not in my location, occupation, successes or failures. It lies not in the eyes or opinions of man, nor in any projected ideal. I am who I am in the eyes of my Creator alone. I am free.

“I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well.”

Psalm 139:14
