It’s amazing how when you actually take time to stop and listen, The Lord will actually speak to you. The creator of the universe is taking time to talk to you!! Since I’ve left, I’ve really been able to hear when God is speaking.
Last week we were talking and Jesus was like “Abbie, you should fast.” I was like “okay Lord, how long should I fast for?” He responded with “3 days.” I asked when I should start and he said the next day.
So, on Tuesday the 14th of October I started a three day fast with only water to drink. I’ve done one day fasts before, so the first day wasn’t that hard.
On Wednesdays, we have construction day. I woke up praying that The Lord would give me strength for the day. After the thirty minute hike to where we do construction I was given the option to sit out and pray. I didn’t want fasting to impede my ability to work/do ministry, so I worked. That day The Lord probably heard me say “I’m carrying this rock for you,” a hundred times. When it rains we usually stop to clean up and then head back down the hill. So, when it started pouring that’s what we started to do, but I noticed the hired workers still working. I went to help them and that literally meant I was scrubbing the dirt off rocks. The Lord gave me the energy to do it and then He gave me a more significant task. Then He threw me into a different task that
had a little more responsibility. It was like the parable of the talents in Matthew 25. With each new task it was like Jesus was saying “Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much.” The awesome thing is that with each new task He answered my prayers and gave me the strength to do each thing.
Moral of the story:
In the paraphrased words of Pastor Ben Courson, you can ask The Lord to move mountains, but don’t be surprised when He hands you a shovel (Matthew 17:20). In other words, you may ask for miracles to happen, but The Lord may use you to accomplish what your asking for.
