When talking about training camp, my squadmate Ali Geisler (visit her blog) puts it best,

“The World Race Training Camp didn’t change me forever. But the God who showed up day after day in Gainesville, Georgia surely did. The neatest thing is that I have a pretty good feeling that I have only seen a glimpse of the work he has to do in me and through me on my journey to come.”

The first couple days of camp was purely listening to Dr. Ron Walden speak. I probably took more notes in those first three days than I ever have. He spoke on the power of the Holy Spirit, Forgiveness, Community, and much more. For many, this surfaced past problems that were never dealt with. For me, it brought to light the present struggles that come with caring for someone close to me, and noooooo it’s not a boy. I need to forgive them, not only for their sake, but for mine too. Back in Jesus times it was customary to forgive someone three times, after that you no longer had to forgive the person. When Jesus said to someone 7×70 times, he did not literally mean to tally up all 490 wrongs, but to always forgive. Jesus has forgiven me countless times and as a Christian I am to be Christ like. Therefore, I must forgive.

On a fun note, I met my squad and my team!

My squad is made up of 42 like- minded individuals that I will be traveling with.

My team is made up of five other ladies that I will be spending the entire nine months with.

Training camp week I learned what real community is. I mean, we did have to sleep in a school bus together, make our own shelter together, share all our belongings with the person whose packs “got lost in the airport,” and worship together.

I loved every minute of training camp, but it did train us for some of the hardest parts of being a missionary. Even through the physically and spiritually difficult parts, I am more excited about this missions trip than before!
