Psalm 86:1-2
Listen O LORD! Answer me! For I am oppressed and needy. Protect me, for I am loyal! O my God, deliver your servant, who trusts in you.
When traveling from Johannesburg, South Africa to Windhoek, Namibia you never know what can happen. I mean even the possibility of the Holy Spirit starting a chain of events starting with a free pizza could happen. I feel that you as a reader may be a little confused on the kind of delivery I’m referring to, so it’s story time.
My team for the month of December has the title as a Unsung Heroes team. Our job for the month is to go into Namibia and find ministries that will team up with our ministry, (Adventures in Missions and The World Race), for future teams to come along and minister with the ministries already in place. There are a couple of challenges that come along with the ministry. We have a limited budget and we have to find our own place to stay while traveling inside the country. It sounds scary but when you depend on the Spirit anything can happen. Even with a pizza.
A woman named Linda was the benefactor of sharing the blessing our Lord had for me on the day pizza delivered. We sat next to each other for 15 hours talking about life and the trials the Spirit has brought us through. During our time together she was so open, sharing wisdom from past experiences to being vulnerable about the present. The time was so humbling because the way she shared could have only been set up through a supernatural being.
In the middle of our conversation our bus stopped for lunch. I had a huge desire for pizza and there was a Dominoes. The sad part was I only had 15 minutes and there were no pre-cooked pizzas. So I disappointedly went and got a fish sandwich instead. When we got back on the bus I told her about the sad experience.
As we continued on our journey for another 7 hrs I told her about our ministry for the month. She told me about a woman she knew named Zilke in Windhoek that could possibly help us once we got in to town. I didn’t think much of it while I was taking the information in, if I’m being honest, but the Spirit knew what He was going to do with that contact.
We show up to the last town in South Africa before Namibia and it is also the place where Linda and I would part ways. Before we part ways however, her husband and her kids show up and hand me an unexpected large pizza and a hug. So started a string of Blessings that blessed not only me but my whole team.
We stayed the night in South Africa before leaving for the final portion of our expedition to Windhoek. Upon arriving in Windhoek we had no idea what we were to do. All I knew was that I needed to get my team Internet somewhere so we could find a place to sleep for the night. After asking around, we were told of an Internet cafe. Internet is scarce in Africa so this was blessing number 1 in the country. The team looked for 2 hrs to have a place to rest our heads for the night. In that time we found nothing in our budget. I remembered the contact that Linda gave us, (Zilke). So I gave her a call praying that she could help us in some way. Once I had her on the phone she directed us to the church she attended, called Emmanuel Church.
I called the church and within minutes the Spirit started His blessings again. The secretary on the phone told us that she had scheduled a meeting for the Missions pastor and our team at 4 p.m. We loaded up in two taxis and headed towards the coffee shop we were told to meet him at.
Once we met with the pastor, we learned that he was a kind hearted, energetic, all out for the Lord human being. He was overjoyed to tell us the history of Namibia and how the Lord needed to be shared throughout the country. Even though the country is 90% Christian, poverty and alcoholism is rampant.
Pastor Ron was eager to help our team after we shared our desire to use connections in the country to minister. We also learned that he is the main contact when it comes to missions in Namibia. So the Spirit blessed us through that meeting. Also through the meeting Ron gave us a place to stay for free so we didn’t have to use our limited budget. I can’t repeat it enough on how much the Spirit blessed us.
To put everything together. We came to Namibia with a limited budget, no contacts, no place to stay, and no idea what we were going to do. It’s a good thing the Spirit had everything lined up for us though because we couldn’t lean on our own understanding.
There is more to this story and how my team has been blessed and the ministry’s we have been introduced to. To hear more read part 2.
