on the same day i seem to finish them.
Well here we are.. getting ready to start the last week in Zambia…
I feel like it went by fast. We have been doing all sorts of ministry. We haven’t really been at one ministry for more then one day.. but because of that we have been able to see so much of Lusaka and Zambia. We’ve been to a few school’s for orphans and kids who parents are in prison.
We were also guest of honor at “Tirimbisane Women’s and Home Based Care” gathering. We also worked went to campuses. The University of Zambia and Evleen hall College. (we spent a few days on both campuses)
This ministry probably stuck out to me the most..and was probably my Favorite..which surprised me just a little bit.. We went to a compound where there was a center that was called Vision of Hope. The lady had started from the ground up, just meeting once a week under a tree, and now to a two building site. They take in young girls who have been living on the street they are either prostitution, being abused by family, on drugs, pregnant . Some of them find there way there, some the police will bring to them, some they find. But they not only give them a place to stay, they help them work through all the junk they have been through. They have classes they have to attend. They also have to make a rug, and they also make journal’s from scratch. They sell the rugs and journal’s they get to keep part of the money, if I understood right the rest goes back into making more, or just help supporting themselves there.
Those who are young enough they work with them to try and get them back to where they can go to school. They’re all about furthering their education, to help give them a future. Those who are to old they try to help them get into a trade school. When we were there was a little boy who was staying there because its mother was away at trade school. They had decided it was best for the mom to keep her son and they had worked it out with her that they would keep her son while she was at school. Needless to say I may have gotten attached to him in just the few hours we were there, he wanted to be loved on so much. Didn’t help that he was adorable and he started giving me kisses
There was also a young girl who couldn’t really speak she mostly used noises and her hands. They think she may have some hearing problems. They’re not sure what exactly is wrong with her, but that she was abused from a very young age and that is all she knows. They have to keep extra care on her. Just because she isn’t fully aware yet that it is wrong what people did to her, So she could end up doing it to some of the younger kids that are there. They are trying to get her into get tested so they can figure out what the best way it is to go about helping her. She told the lady running it that she “liked me and wanted to come see me at my house.” I wish I could take her home with me… well I wish I could take a lot of them home with me.
The greatest thing about all the places we went is that they are all owned and run by Local Zambian people. It makes me happy to know that they see and realize that there is problems like this in their country and they want to fix it! They are also being the hands and feet of Jesus. They are also my brothers and sisters in Christ. And now we get to pray for them and encourage them, just as they have encouraged us.
We leave Lusaka on Saturday morning to take an all day bus back to Malawi. We will stay in a hostel for about 4 days for debriefing with out squad leaders, and coach’s. All of Z-Squad will be back together for those 4 days. Then we will all travel to our next ministry site. Which just happens to be all squad month, so all of Z-Squad will be at the same location, and that location is Sanga Bay. We will all be in the bush, We will be tenting it this month. There are a few ministry’s we could be doing. So this next month will be different and difficult and new ways then this one has been.
