Sometimes, it’s hard to just let go and let God.
We live in a society and a time where the more hurried, stressful, and chaotic your life is, the better. Everyone is running around on the treadmill of life towards a destination of success and happiness. My typical day consists of going to work, going to class, studying, working out, writing e-mails, running errands, volunteering, cleaning, and more studying until I eventually fall asleep at 3 AM to wake up and begin it all again at 7 AM. That isn’t to say that a good work ethic isn’t important–but sometimes I miss the big picture. Sometimes I find myself so caught up in laying the foundation for my future that I forgot who really has the say in my future. Sometimes I forget that He is the only one that can bring me true success in the most important sense of the word, and genuine happiness.
I love working towards my goal of being a doctor, because that’s my dream. But I also need to remember that I can’t work towards that goal, or any other goal for that matter, without His support and His blessing!
Some people say that fundraising for a mission trip is an opportunity for spiritual growth, and I couldn’t agree more. I was blessed to receive a generous corporate donation and a few personal donations, but recently have hit a roadblock. I launched my shirt fundraiser yesterday after preparing for a couple weeks, and only one person visited the website. I sent out several e-mails for support, and have yet to hear back. I am at the point in my fundraising where I am playing a waiting game! But I am thankful for this, because it has reminded me to let go and let God. Often in life we have situations that might be worrisome, or out of our control, or even nerve wracking. And once we know we have done all that we can do, we can take comfort in the fact that God will take care of the rest.
And so, this week I will be awaiting t-shirt sales and e-mail replies…but not anxiously! Instead, I plan on spending these next few days celebrating our Savior’s birth and resting assured that all will come together in His perfect timing. 🙂
