Hello all!
My name in Nicholas Dreyer and I have just been accepted to the World Race: Semesters mission for Central America! I am very excited to begin this journey where I am confident I will learn, grow and develop my faith. In my first blog post, I would like to share how I came to find the World Race and what I would like to take out of this experience.
First, I am going into my Senior year of High School and through a program called Dual Enrollment I take courses at our local community college which counts for college and high school credit. Through this program I have the ability to graduate early in December of 2020. I knew I had around 7 months between graduation and college and I explored many options before finding The World Race. Originally, I was thinking about studying abroad to gain fluency in Spanish, but I realized that the last thing I wanted was to graduate, go to school in another country, then come back for college and find out that college had a study abroad all along! Then I thought about traveling, but as I did my research I found that it was lacking purpose and community since I would be traveling myself. Later, one of my mother’s friends who is a World Race alumni suggested The Race might be a good fit for me. When I heard about this I was very excited because it had everything I wanted to do: traveling, Spanish and purpose. Moreover, I would build my relationship with God and exploring what He called me to do in this world.
Semesters also fit perfectly into the time frame I had off from school and it became clear that I was being called to this mission. I hope that during this trip I can meet new friends and build a strong community bound by faith to help those we are called to serve on this mission. I think language is also a key to serving those on our mission and I hope to acquire more Spanish knowledge while interacting and helping in our target communities. I am excited to travel to 3 different countries and experience their culture and connection with God. Through The World Race, I hope that I will not only find purpose in helping other people, but in impacting them positively so they may find God’s grace to live a more fulfilled and happy life.
I am filled with excitement as I embark on this journey in my life as I impact the lives of others through discipleship. So, I guess this is where the adventure begins…
