This month, a big majority of our ministry, has been working with an organization called His Hands for Honduras. This program allows people to sponsor a child, and through that provide food, education, and a knowledge of Jesus. Getting to work with these kids most days has blessed my heart in so many ways…but it has also broken it! There are SO many kids that need to be sponsored. Here is some information about the program, and a little of my passion for the kids that, through the program, have hope for a better life.
All of the money from the kids that are sponsored goes into a pot of sorts, so that the kids that aren’t sponsored are still able to eat and go to school. The program provides 3 meals a week, and unfortunately isn’t able to provide more than that right now due to lack of funds. Plainly put, more kids need to be sponsored! I talked to the pastor we’re working with, and his wife, Francisca, teaches the kids Bible stories and songs. Many of them also go to Iglesia Cristo Centro, Pastor Gregorio’s church, although this isn’t actually a part of the program.
So, here’s my thoughts on the money going “into a pot” and not solely being used for the child you sponsor…I love it! I absolutely hate the idea of a child not getting a meal because they aren’t sponsored. I think it’s great that the money is divided in a way where all of the kids get a few meals a week and a chance at a better life. I just wish more kids were sponsored so that more could be provided for each child.
That’s where YOU come in! Maybe mission trips aren’t your thing, or they aren’t something you are able to do. But, maybe you also have a passion for helping children in need. Sponsoring a child is such an awesome way to help! I urge you to go to the website, look at the kid’s profiles, and PRAY that God would open your heart to the possibility of sponsorship! (If you have any questions or concerns please let me know! I would love to shed some light or provide some answers!)
