Hello again! While Hugh is hanging out in San Pedro, we are going to rotate his Wednesday blogging duties. So it’s Laura again… back for another day of blogging!
I have to tell you about our angel with skin on here. When we all first arrived we were tired, emotionally, spiritually, mentally, and physically exhausted from Panajachel and our travels. We arrive just as the coffee shop is closing, so we can’t go out and get any food for the night. We walk into the church area and drop all our stuff ready to pass out. Out of the kitchen walks the most beautiful woman in the world.
Carol is probably in her 60’s and is obviously sent from God. She is a missionary here in Antigua who works with the church and coffee shop. As we threw our stuff down she made sure we had everything we needed and then heated up some of her homemade soup and fresh bread for our dinner. The next morning she took us to the grocery store and helped us buy enough for lunch and dinner. Tomorrow she is going to take us to the market and help us buy vegetables and all kinds of healthy things.
Her actual “job” is to bake the goodies for the coffee shop. But she does so much more than that. Everyone who comes to the coffee shop takes a turn sitting back in her kitchen discussing all of life. She really is everyone’s grandma. She takes care of us and loves on us and provides for us. And she is an incredible Godly woman full of so much wisdom! We have all taken turns sitting with her as she bakes every day. Just to listen to her encourages our hearts.
Today we walked around with Abner and visited the hospital and one of the orphanages. We will return to the hospital on Monday to finish paperwork and begin volunteering in their children’s department. We also got a contact for one of the orphanages and will pursue that tomorrow. We are very excited to begin pouring out around here. Keep checking back for more updates!
