We have made it safely to the island!!!
We got here this past Friday the 10th
of July. For the first three nights we
stayed at this ultra hippie hostel in the jungle which was a very interesting
experience to say the least. Everything they had there to eat for us was
organic. We also had the privilege of going
to the bathroom in the woods, as well as showering in an open shower under a
faucet. Good times were had by all. During these three days of true roughing it
we stayed in tree houses/dorms or hammocks outside. My team did a lot of team building and
strengthening during that time as well as a prayer walk through the “village”
(meaning the dirt road that lead to other jungles) 😉 We left for our current location this past
Monday the 13th of July, which was about an hour away. We are currently working at the orphanage
and will continue to do so for the next 2 weeks. During the day we do a lot of construction
and are starting to work with the children as well. It is absolutely beautiful here as the
orphanage is right on the edge of the island and the sunsets on the water are
gorgeous! We will not have very regular
access to the internet here as we have to take a taxi to town to get to
internet connections. We will be flying
back to Boston via Miami on the 30th of July (I think).
From there we will stay about 12 hours in the
airport and then fly to Ireland for a few days of debrief,
ministry in Romania!!
