Boss you roll this world like it’s a wagon
wheel on a rainbow Boss wrapped
tight around the shadow of your little finger
do those shadows ever get in the way of
your all-seeing Boss and block the words
you write can you do it in the dark Boss
can you pin down your shadow and outline
it or don’t you cast shadows with your
bigness Boss because you boss the dark
you’re the boss of the light I’ve noticed
it’s hardest for my hazy eyes to see
when the sun starts disappearing in the
always purple never blue sky but does it
even look that way to you Boss or do
you look through Wisdom-colored glasses
like Solomon always said do they have
bifocal lines that get in the way or
is wisdom more like looking in a
perfect mirror mirror on the wall Boss
is the fairest of them all because you
love justice the way I should love mercy
ever-patient ever-waiting but always abiding
in love is patient love is kind Boss and
wisdom is your best friend from childhood
to skip rocks on the milky way with
and watch them disappear into stars I see
you and Wisdom sometimes Boss with my
hands behind my head and my back
in the grass Boss I look up to you
