Today we met with YWAM (Youth With A Mission) missionaries, Derrick
and Rebecca. They have invited us to join
them in a garden project. There are many
women in the area that have taken on the responsibility of providing meals for
orphaned or lower income children. For
about 50 Rand or $7 a seed kit will provide a garden with enough vegetables to,
“feed a small village.” There are 3 gardens that have already been
planted and we are going to work on at least 3 more. Two locations need to have fencing placed
around them in order to keep the chickens and the monkeys out of the
crops. The seed kit has been produced
specifically for the climate and soil of the area and hopefully will provide
the women with some much needed aid.

The kids at the shelter were bouncing off the walls by the
time we left this evening. They have
definitely become comfortable with us; we often turn into their personal jungle
gym. I fed soft porridge and gave
bottles to the babies then helped the pre-school kids with their mince and
rice. I flipped, tickled, chased and
held a dozen different kids and then left while they were still wound up and crazy.
Have I mentioned that I really respect the Mommas at the shelter?

Brienna spent the day at the hospital with a one of the baby
girls from the shelter. Unfortunately
Brienna felt that the baby was not any better today. She is having a very hard time breathing and
is not eating anything. She is on oxygen
and an IV, so we are praying that she will get better.

UPDATE:  Three of us have been asked to help out with an organization that reaches out to orphans.  We will be gone for the next 4 or 5 days to help hand out food and to set up tents.  I’m not sure if I will have Internet access, so I may not update until Saturday.  We will work on the garden project when we return.
