Hello! I have been reading the book Power of Simple Prayer by Joyce Meyers recently. It is a REALLY good book. This morning as I was reading she suggested an interesting way to study prayer. It came in the chapter of Praying the Word. She said what really helped her to know how to pray was to study both Jesus’ and Paul’s prayers. She points out for example that Paul did not pray for things to be easy, but that people would have the strength to bear what came their way. She encourages readers to study Paul’s prayers in the books of Ephesians, Philippians and Colossians but writing down (typing) out his prayers and then memorizing/studying them to examine the way he prayed and to be able to pray more like him. I am going to start doing this, and I thought I would pass along the suggestion to everyone else.
I have gone through Ephesians today. There are some prayers of Paul in there that are really interesting. Check specifically Ephesians 1:16-19, 3:4-6, 3:14-21, 6:18-20. However, I encourage you to read the whole book. As I did this, I found another interesting thing that I wanted to share with you.
Ephesians 2:10
God has made us what we are. In Christ Jesus, God made us to do good works, which God planned in advance for us to live our lives doing.
Ephesians 4:12
Christ gave us those gifts to prepare God’s holy people for the work of serving, to make the body of Christ stronger.
Ephesians 4:1
So I urge you now to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.
-God made us to do good works.
-He gave us gifts to serve others.
-So live a life worthy of fulfilling this calling.
