Hey Racers,

For the next four weeks you are enrolled in Blog Training. Jeff Goins and I will be giving you weekly assignments to help you understand the ministry of your blog and how to use it well. Jeff will also be available via comments here and emails to jeff.goins(at)gmail.com. He is more than glad to help out with this process so feel free to use him as a resource.

Here is this week’s assignment:

  1. Read Blogging Lesson One on this discussion site.
  2. If you have not already, go through the Quickstart guide on your blog. Do this by logging into your blog and clicking on Blogging Tutorials. Read through and make sure you understand how to use the different tools.
  3. Post a new blog on your site. We would like to start you blogging before you enter the field so that you can learn discipline in regularly communicating your thoughts and experiences and help you refine the art of storytelling in your life. Blogging will be an essential part of your ministry.

Pray for the impact that you have with these stories and always try to be sensitive to the random “seeker” who may end up on your site with no knowledge of who you are, what the WR is, or even who Christ really is. Keep these things in mind without stressing about them, and your blog will be a powerful ministry that complements what you do hands-on in the field.

    Here’s the assignment:

    This I Believe (400-600 words)

    • Write a short introduction to who you are, what your core beliefs are, and what has shaped those beliefs. This is taken from thisibelieve.org, so visit the site for more info.

    • This is not a soapbox for your personal testimony nor an opportunity to give a gospel presentation – this is a chance to talk about what really matters to you. Visit Purity is a Gift for an example of this.

    • The title of your blog post should read: “This I believe – [title of the essay]”. For example, if you’re writing on Transformers, write, “This I believe – Transformers Rock!” You get the picture.

    • Include this at the beginning of your essay (copy and paste):

      • We were asked to write an essay called “This I Believe” about what really matters to us, as preparation for this world missions adventure called the World Race. This is what I believe… (include hyperlinks, please – this will help others find
        the WR site)

  4. Also, we suggest:

    1. Read through our e-zine at http://www.wreckedfortheordinary.com/. Note the different ways to be creative with your blog and how your blog might contribute as an article for Wrecked.
    2. Place a link to another website in your blog. You may link to other AIM blogs, team members’ sites, or any other website you wish. Start customizing your blog!

    3. Read through some new blogs of current Racers and use the “Raise This Up” tool to vote for your favorite blog (just click the tool at the bottom of the blog you’re reading).
If you have any questions, or would like to submit something to Wrecked or suggest an excellent blog for publication, you can contact Jeff at [email protected]. He can field any questions you have.
